Spring has sprung...

How pretty our yard looks at this time of year!

It has been a long time coming...but finally little buds, shoots and leaves are springing up everywhere!

With all this beauty, I might even wear my spring rainboots to work in the flower beds more often (who am I kidding). I can't take any credit for our plantings. It's all him. Every part of our yard.

Thank you for making it so pretty, Chris.

Shall we take a peek?

Despite the heavy rain showers on Sunday, I picked up some lovely gems at the Allegan Antique market. Shall we take a peek?

This vintage Chinese checkerboard is probably my favorite acquisition because of its graphics.

It even has all its marbles.

I believe I've started a Chinese checkerboard collection!!

Speaking of collections, I had picked up several children's record albums several years ago to hang in Emma's nursery. I unpacked them when my craft room was finished and Chris hung them on the bulk head.

I found several others on Sunday.

I especially like the graphics from the Three Little Kittens record.

I'm a sucker for vintage Children's books...especially those with beautiful illustrations.

When I saw this owl book, I knew I had to have it for my Halloween collection.

Speaking of illustrations, this is a magazine cover from 1925.
Isn't she sweet?

Can you tell I'm having fun decorating my craft room? Believe it or not, I have more purchases to unveil. I just need to get some things painted/fixed up a bit first. Thanks for letting me show you around my craft room. Be sure to come back!

Tweet Tweet!

Emma had her final band concert this evening at the High School Auditorium.

We're so proud of her flute playing and her dedication to getting up very early to attend band practice before her elementary school starts.

I don't know many kids who get up early and ride the bus to junior high at 6:40am without grumbling. She's certainly had good practice for what her morning schedule is going to be like next year when she's at junior high everyday. She's even asked if she can have private lessons this summer to keep up with her flute playing.

Way to go, sweetheart!!

Date Night & Man Cave Pics

The last time we had a babysitter was in December. Neither Chris nor I have parents who live nearby and we've never done a good job of getting a regular babysitter on schedule. This past Friday, we actually got to enjoy a night on the town eating at our favorite tapas restaurant . We we spent the rest of the evening walking around the waterfront along the Grand river. Chris took a few pictures with his cell phone. The downtown is really lovely…don’t you think?

Our sitter is moving back across the state in 2 weeks for the summer. Why oh why, didn’t we take advantage of her more often? She’s an Education major at the same college that Chris and I met at. She even works at Josie’s daycare and Josie is extremely comfortable with her. Bottom-line, she's just the perfect babysitter. I can’t wait until Emma is old enough to watch Josie. Even though I love my girls, those date nights are priceless.

I promised Chris to show off pictures of his man cave. Some of you might think I take over (call the shots) decorating the house, but Chris actually has a (single) room that is filled with all his favorite stuff. When we put in new heat runs/duct work this winter, everything came down from the walls because we had to redo the ceilings. Over the weekend, Chris painted his walls and hung his stuff back up again. I'm sure after you look around, you can guess he's a huge Detroit sports fan.

I promise to post pictures of my latest acquisitions from this past weekend's antique market soon. I have some sanding and painting to do first (actually...Chris has some sanding and painting to do first) hee hee.

This rainy day didn't get us down!!!

It rained. No, actually, it poured. It was windy and bitter cold at times, but my Liberty of London rain boots got lots of compliments at the Allegan Antique Market.

Despite the dismal weather conditions, my mom, sister and myself made at least 3 trips to my van. Some of those trips, were to warm up. I told you we were dedicated to this event!!!

Just wait until you see my acquisitions. I think I've just increased the cute factor in my craft room today BIG TIME!! I promise to post pictures later this week.

The winner of today's shabby chic candle supply give-away is Jodi from Heads Up Seven Up.

Send me your postal address and I'll get your shabby chic supplies in the mail this week. My email address link is available on the right sidebar.

I hope everyone's weekend has been a happy one.

Come H*ll or High Water...

We have 80% chance of THIS for Sunday.

I don't care if we have to cover ourselves in garbage bags, my Mom, sister and I are still going to the Allegan Antique market. Actually, I decided with the weather predictions, here was my excuse to go buy those Liberty of London rainboots I've been coveting. Aren't they cute?

It's been five months since the Allegan Antique market was open and I've been counting down the months/days/hours.

Maybe the dealers will haggle with inclement weather?? One year, I got this children sized table/chair set for a steal. Chris and I jazzed it up with a bit of fresh paint and and my mother painted on a few pretty flowers.

It's the perfect setting for a tea party or sisterly chat.

I'm so ready for the hunt!!

If it's a good day of antique shopping, I'll show off my acquisitions.
Hope your weekend has been a good one.

Don't forget to sign up for my shabby chic candle give-away.
Drawing to be held Sunday April 24th at 6pm.

Look what came in the mail!!!

If you haven't been to the 147 Million Orphans site, you really must. I've followed Gwen's blog for years and the work she and Suzanne are doing are just amazing. Their organization has partnered with Katie Davis and the wonderful women of the Karamojong tribe of Uganda to offer these beautiful necklaces created by hand and from re-cycled magazines.

I ordered two necklaces. One for my sister for Mother's day and one for myself.

If you looking for a gift that makes a difference, this is perfect.

Don't forget to enter for my shabby chic candle give-away.

Continue to keep Jiliang and Daniel in your thoughts/prayers. See the top of my right blog header for heart surgery/recovery updates.

Give-away with a twist! Shabby Chic Candle

I love sharing crafting ideas with my followers. Even better, I love it when you tell me that you attempted them. This week's give-away comes with a slight twist. Instead of me giving you the finished product, I'm going to give you all the supplies (minus the glue and the candle). It's easy. I promise. This shabby chic candle is a perfect Mother's day gift or special gift to yourself.

*Mom - Skip this post!

Supplies needed:
Sheet music
Jar candle
Lace/tulle
Silk flowers
Costume jewelery earring
Glue
Brush
Hot glue gun

1. Remove the label from your jar candle and cover your jar in glue. I poured my glue onto a paper plate and used a paintbrush to evenly cover my jar.

2. Cut your sheet music to the width of your jar and cover. I overlapped the edges of the music.

3. Take your lace and cover the sheet music. Use your hot glue gun to secure the lace in place.

4. I then covered the lace with a strip of pink tulle and tied the tulle into a knot. I secured a costume jewelry earring onto the center of my tulle knot and hot glued a couple of silk flowers around my earring.

So, if you're interested in receiving the supplies to make your very own a shabby chick candle (this includes the sheet music, the pink tulle, the lace, the costume jewelry earring and a couple of pink silk flowers) just leave me a comment in this post. I promise I won't make you show us your final product...although I'd LOVE IT!!! I'm really hoping this new give-away concept doesn't fall flat (in other words please leave comments my faithful followers). I'll draw a winner on Sunday April 25th at 6pm Eastern Standard time. Happy Crafting!!

Please continue to keep this family in prayer as their adopted daughter Jiliang underwent open-heart surgery Tuesday morning.

I also ask that you keep this family in your prayers. Their son Andrew undergoes open-heart surgery today.
