GVSU Asian Festival & Another CNY Craft

Josie survived her dental appointment Thursday afternoon and so we headed back to my work for their Asian Festival. Josie's medicated mouth/smile were still present during the evening's festivities but that didn't seem to bother her.

We're all in agreement that the Lion Dance is still the best part of the GVSU event.

They even had 2 Lions this year!!

I'm recycling another CNY craft that we did last year. It's super easy. Josie even helped out with this craft and she was down to one hand last year at this time because of her hand surgery.

Oriental Trading Company has a chopstick frame kit that you can order, but most of the supplies can be found easily at home.

Supplies needed for this project include:
• Wooden chopsticks
• Ribbon
• Chinese letter patterns or other printable patterns (see link for great CNY prints)
• Paper for printing
• Computer printer
• Glue
• Markers, crayons or colored pencils
• Scissors

I saved our unused chopsticks that came with a recent order of take-out food, but I also found that Party City also had a whole package of decorative chopsticks with their CNY decorations.

Step 1. Go to the following website:

Select one of the printables (you can even select whether you want it to print in color or in black and white).

Step 2. Print off your printable and trim the edges with scissors.

Step 3. Color your printable with markers, crayons or colored pencils, if you selected black and white printing. I always print in black and white because I enjoy seeing how Emma chooses to color her drawings. But for a faster craft, you could select the color option.

Step 4. Glue your chopsticks to the edge of your printable to form a frame.

Step 5. Allow to dry and then take your ribbon and fold over to make a loop and glue to the back of the frame.

Happy soon-to-be Chinese New Year!!

Gung Hay Fat Choy!!

PS. The girls loved their personalized cards, Grandma!

Happy soon-to-be Valentine's Day!!
