Peat Pot Easter Baskets...2 versions



This peat pot Easter basket project is both adult and kid-friendly.

When possible, I try and do crafts that the girls can be included in.

This project was loads of fun. Actually, it was rather addictive and I'll be doing a give-away in the near future with an extra peat pot Easter basket.

Supplies:

Peat pots (my local grocery chain sold them 8 to $1.49
Paint and brushes
Vintage clip art or stickers
Glue gun
Mod Podge (or white glue) and wide brush
White glitter
Pipe cleaners
Beads (optional)
Ribbon or trim (optional)
Silk flowers (optional)


Step 1. Paint the peat pot in a pastel color. This step is totally optional but Josie and I had fun painting our paints in egg robin blue and antique white.

Step 2. Allow the peat pot to dry (we put our pots in front of the fan to speed up the drying time). Cover your pot with stickers or use vintage Easter post cards or printables using white glue or Mod Podge. The blue bird with the pink Easter hat is from Free Pretty Things For You. She has such cute cute vintage images.

The blue bird carrying an envelop came from the Graphics Fairy (which is a great source for many of my craft projects). Other images featured in this post came from Miss Rhea's Free Clip Art on this post.

Step 3. I added another layer of Mod Podge to my graphic and then sprinkled fine white glitter over the entire peat pot.

Step 4. Punch holes in the side of the pot using a hole punch and attach pipe cleaners to form a handle.

Josie strung beads onto her pipe cleaner handles.

I used vintage Christmas beads on my pipe cleaners.

Step 5. I added rick rack and ribbon onto our baskets with a glue gun but this step is optional.

Step 6. Fill your baskets with shredded paper and Easter goodies!

    Oh my gosh, Kim! These are just the cutest Easter baskets ever!!!! I love the addition of the vintage Christmas ornaments to the handle, how fun! And the colors and graphics are perfect! Any project that involves Mod Podge, glitter, and the Graphics Fairy, and I'm in! Thanks for the great tutorial:) Btw, did you get your peat pots at Meijer?

    Yep...I am borrowing this idea from you too! I bought some peat pots last week just to see what you would come up with! Thanks for the tips on the graphics. And thanks to you Tori and I will be making these and some decoupage eggs for the cousins at Easter. My mom did make my brothers and me eggs like that, and she does display them. I will take a pic when she puts them out next week.

    Yes, my heart is heavy for all those people in Japan...It made me hug both my children and husband a little tighter all weekend. I finally just had to pull myself away from the T.V.

    What a beautiful Asian-themed pincushion. That is an incredible find, for sure!

    As many times as I have bought those type of baskets at craft shows and gift shops, I NEVER knew they were made from peat pots. Now I can make my own. Very cute!
