Ever since July, Emma has been heavily involved with our high school varsity marching band.
An intense practice schedule, including that infamous week away at band camp, all leading to this past weekend's state competition at Ford Field in Detroit.
Our hearts were full of pride watching their 163 member band culminate in this 12 minute moment. Extended family from West Michigan, as well as Detroit, all sat in the stands cheering the Grandville marching band.
This was by far their best performance of the whole season.
They were just waiting for this big stage.
Lots of new friendships have been made, upperclassmen looking out for the freshmen and welcoming them into their unit.
They placed 8th in their AA school division...two places higher than the previous year at competition.
Marching band has been such an enriching experience for Emma. We're already looking forward to the 2013 marching season. PS. If you'd like to see a short video clip of their performance, here's part 3 and part 4 of their set from an earlier football game. In part 4, they all set down their instruments and perform a dance routine. You will hear my husband cheering LOUDLY in the video.
Go Grandville!!
Congratulations Emma...you must be so proud...and to play in the cold is never any fun....smiles..Renee

ReplyDeletethats so awesome Kim! I have to tell you I got the biggest kick out of the video with the "WOOOO's!!" You sound exactly like me at a concert or musical! All my kids played instruments and did marching band, (except rob) but our marching band was so small it was not like yours. Still non the less they marched and played and I WOOHOO'd!!
ReplyDeleteGlad you had a fun weekend now have a great week too
xoxo
That brings back such great memories of my BJ in marching band. I miss those days-we still go watch at least 1 game each year just to see the new show. It's a huge commitment-so congrats to Emma. They looked great! Congrats to you too, Kim for being there every minute for her.
ReplyDeleteMarching band is the best. My two kids that were in marching band absolutely loved it. My daughter and I even went to a competition in October that our school hosted even though she graduated in 2010. We wanted to go watch state finals, but MSU had a home football game this past saturday and she didn't want to miss it. Our Troy Athens Redhawks placed 5th. They had a great competition season. Good job Grandville and to all the bands. I don't think people realize how much hard work those kids put into marching band.
ReplyDeleteSuch a gorgeous, talented girl....Emma must have you bursting with pride!
ReplyDeleteThat looks like so much fun! I can certainly see why you are so proud of your sweet daughter.
ReplyDeleteCongratulations to the Grandville band! Emma looks like she belongs out there with all of them!
