Merriment modifications to the backyard ice rink!

I hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas.  It certainly has felt like an old fashioned Christmas with all our snow.
The woods behind our house is extra beautiful right now.
The shadows against the white snow make the photos look black-and-white.
The day before Christmas, Chris brought home several strings of the large Christmas screw-in bulbs on clearance.
I tried to not watch him balanced on top of his ladder.  It was positioned in large mounds of snow and ice.

He had big plans for additional lighting around the backyard ice rink.
Just as Chris envisioned, the lights are over-the-top amazing.
It looks like a winter carnival in our backyard.

Yes.  We are spoiled.

Bring your skates!

Everyone is welcome!

  6. I love it! And love those large lights, where on sale? The skating rink is so perfect. Do the neighbor kids come and skate too? Wonderful exercise and fresh air healthy benefits.

Perfect season around here for people to be outside and exercise. I think it will be snow shoe time for me!

Enjoy the weekend and happy times!

  8. The strings of lights really do add that extra-layer-of- Merry to the rink. I'm afraid that I would just fall on my behind if I tried to skate on your rink (or any rink). So I'll just drink hot chocolate on the sidelines. :-) PS- Next time there is a wedding and we need lights strung, I know who to call. ;-)

  13. What an amazing ice rink! Our granddaughter (7) had her first ice skating experience this week, and she absolutely loved it! Unfortunately, our daughter was knocked down by someone falling, and she has a very painful tailbone to deal with currently.:-( It would be such fun to have a backyard rink! xo Nellie

  16. What fun to look out and see that just outside. I would love to show up with skates..I am not that great at skating, but don't fall often.
A couple of spins around the rink and then you could invite me in!

  17. Hey Kimmy,
I think Mother Nature is menopausal! We had 3 snow storms in December (we rarely ever get snow in Dec. as it is, but 3 storms?!) Then it suddenly got to 70 degrees this past weekend. Now it's back to cold again. Wish she'd make up her mind!

  18. You are TWO of the finest kind! Tonite for dinner we planned to broil the Korean marinade chicken; I said, "we need..." he said, "the broiler pan brought up from the basement." And so it begins another happy year in the 'ever after' of being married to my best friend.

  19. Your snow is soooo pretty!! I wish we had more, we have barely enough to cover the ground and it starting melting a bit today. I have my fingers crossed for that "lake effect" snow in our forecast for Sunday and Monday! :) Love your pretty lights hanging over the ice rink!! Looks like a lovely magical time! xo Holly
