We've been keeping a SECRET!

We've been keeping a secret since early March.
I should clarify that Chris has been the one working on this secret mission since early March.
Loads of research, several inspections, negotiations and mountains of paperwork have been happening.
We are now the proud owners of lakefront property!
Yes.  It really is an A-Frame.
It's tiny.
Like only one-person-in-the-kitchen-at-a-time tiny.
It has a loft bedroom, one bedroom on the main floor, one bathroom, a tiny upstairs living room and a good-sized finished basement (which is where I imagine our sixteen year old will be taking over).
Despite its miniature size, it has loads of charm and it's right on the water.
Chris's blue boat really does have a permanent home now (instead of the side of our house).
All the furnishings you see in these pictures are the original owners.

We have some renovations happening before we move in our things.
Carpets are being ripped out first and then the electrical is being upgraded next.
All of Chris's vintage outdoor treasures (including my Grandpa's lure collection) will be going with us.
This is the reason we've been collecting extra estate sale goodies and furniture.
Aside from mattresses, we are determined to outfit this cottage with purchases from thrift stores , estate sales and garage sales.
It's been fun collecting.
Just think of all the blogging material I'll have over the new few months as we put our own touches on this place!!

  1. Congratulations! I must admit, however, that I'm not surprised by the big news or the shape of the cottage. Your pinterest pins have already given you away. :-) Lake Michigan? Beautiful memories await.

  30. Hello Miss Kim K.
Well this is wonderful news! I couldn't be happier for you!
The A-Frame is adorable! It reminds me so much of many of the lake homes here in MN. I grew up "going to the cabin" on the weekends. My Grandpa and his brothers built it out of logs, laid the stone fireplace...the whole bit. Those are my best memories. This will become such a special place for your family.
    Happy for you-
    Erica :)

  32. How cool! Congratulations on the purchase. Good call on the "aside from mattresses" from the thrift stores. Mattresses would just be a step too far :) Can't wait to see how you decorate it. Looks like it's going to be fun from some of the things you've shown (love those little canoes)!

  35. Wonderful Kim! Just looking at the water is so cathartic. Lots of family fun to be had at the lake! We stayed in a tiny A-frame on vacation once and climbed ladder stairs to the loft bed. We loved its charm. Tiny indoor space is all you need, you're there for the outdoors, right? Great going!

  36. I just keep rereading your big news....it is just most exciting....I follow your blog, but have never commented, but this is just too wonderful. I am jealous of your getting to decorate with all that vintage camping, fishing gear etc. Too cool.
The Fisher Price A-frame is adorable...my daughter has one and the pop up camper etc. etc.
Thanks so much. Your blog is the most fun.
