Dumpster diving at the dump...

I had hinted that I had a trash-to-treasure story.  Earlier last week, we went to the town dump near our lake house because that's where the garbage service is located.  We had finally decided to pay for a service instead of hauling our trash home every weekend in our van.  Stinky STINK!
Anyways, as we were getting ready to leave with our shiny brand new garbage can, I spotted a rusty outdoor chair near a dumpster.  Knowing we just couldn't grab it and run (although tempted) Chris and Josie went back inside the office and inquired about the metal outdoor chair.  They were told they could take the chair but we weren't suppose to pick trash and not to make this a habit.  Thanks, ladies. Got it!
After a few hours of sanding, Chris chose ocean mist rustoleum paint.
I think our trash- to-treasure chair is pretty darn cute now.  Don't you just love a happy ending!?!

  2. I was actually just showing Brian the before & after photos of this chair on IG last night! We have an old yellow motel chair that is in desperate need of a makeover. I figured your chair overhaul would give Brian the push he needed to get started!

    Have a great weekend!

  3. Who in their right mind would throw that baby away!!! Thanks for saving her! Love the new color and she looks great hanging out with the flamingos. Now go back to the dump this weekend and do some more picking :)

  4. Well it would be hard not to get into the habit of picking at the dump when you find stuff like that. Another high five to Chris.

  6. OMG fabulous score! Chris did a great job, as usual. Yeah, they say that at our dump also. We bring Doyle with us when we go. The ladies love him so that helps with the "diving", lol.

  8. Beautiful! I love those old chairs. We had two on our property when we bought it - living a discarded life, out back in the weeds. We rescued them, and Mr. C. restored them. One is a sky blue and the other a sunshine yellow. They are the most comfortable chairs! Enjoy your rescue efforts!

  9. It is not picking if it is out in the open. In addition most garbage dumps would rather extend their usefulness by having things reused rather than fill up.

  10. I have a couple of those old chairs that I need to refinish. Yours turned out so cute I may just have been inspired to get on it and redo them.

    Thanks for the inspiration,

  16. Beautiful chair, sometimes it pays to be brave, even if you are asking for junk. You are so lucky to have a husband that loves to upcycle junk too.
