Give-away Winner & Several CNY Craft Ideas

Drum roll please…Congratulations Sherry F!!

I'll get your goodies into the mail later this afternoon. Thanks everyone for stopping by and participating in my little Valentine giveaway.

Last year, a few of us got together to celebrate with Kimberely who was finally bringing home her sweet little Sophia. I decided that we needed party favors to remember our special day and created these little China girls from wooden beads. I think these would be equally fun to include as party favors for CNY.

Supplies needed:

Wooden beads (Each doll requires 1 large wooden bead, 1 medium wooden bead, 1 wooden heart).
hot glue gun
White paint, black paint, red paint, pink paint
Paint brush
Fine point black marker

Step 1. Hot glue the large wooden bead and heart together. The heart becomes the base/feet of the little girl.

Step 2. Paint the large bead and heart feet with red paint and set aside to dry.

Step 3. Paint the center of the smaller bead with white paint and let dry.

Step 4. Use your black paint to create bangs and a bob-styled haircut. Take a fine-tip marker, and draw line eyes and a small dot to fashion eyes and a nose.

Step 6. Turn the paint brush over and dip the paint into pink. Dot in the corner of her hair with the paint brush. Then dip the brush into red paint and create other dots around the center of the pink dot to form a flower.

Step 7. Allow the head to dry and then hot glue onto the larger bead/feet. Use the same flower technique to fashion a flower on her outfit.

I just love their sweet little faces.

If you haven't been to Kai-lan Nick Jr. lately, they have all kinds of fun printables on their website for Chinese New Year.

I love this fancy Kai-lan lantern

Over the last few years we've made several different versions of paper lanterns.

Hewlett Packard has Chinese lantern printables available on their website. They even include instructions for putting them together. Emma and I worked on these lanterns a year ago thinking they would be fun to use on New Year's Eve, and then again at Chinese New Year.

We even brought them out again for my Mom's birthday party.

See this post for instructions for making easy lanterns from construction paper and stickers.

Happy Crafting!! Happy soon-to-be CNY!
