Last Minute Kid-Friendly Christmas ornaments...

Just in case you need a first last minute gifts for Grandma & Grandpa (or ways to keep the kids entertained at the start of break because Christmas can't come FAST ENOUGH) here are some fun kid-friendly Christmas ornaments.

First up....

Using paper mache ornaments, spread some glue onto the ornament in sections then cover the ornament with small pieces of tissue paper. Cover again with a bit of glue diluted in water and sprinkle generously with glitter. Or, if you own glitter glue that saves several steps. Glitter glue ROCKS! Michael's has their paper mache ornaments on clearance right now too!

next up...

Cut out Christmas trees from card stock or construction paper. Brush with glue and generously sprinkle with glitter (or use glitter glue). Let dry and glue a picture in the center. Leave room to punch a hole at the top of the ornament for a Christmas hook or ribbon.

Third up…

A variation of the 2nd ornament (and something a bit more exciting for the preteen in my house). Cut out a tree-shape from felt and using a low-temp glue gun, attach pom poms, trim and other embellishments.

Last up…

We made these ornaments last year out of beads and pipe cleaners. It's such an easy craft, I thought I'd recycle it again.

Beaded Ornament/Picture Frame

Supplies:
Medium sized plastic beads
Pipe cleaners
* If you want to use this ornament as a picture frame, you will also need a picture, scissors and glue.

Step 1. Take the pipe cleaner and string one bead to an inch of the end of the pipe cleaner. Loop the pipe cleaner around the bead so that the bead doesn't slip off the end of the pipe cleaner.

Step 2. Pour the beads into a small container and let your child string the beads onto the pipe cleaner.
Step 3. Have your child string beads until there is about an inch left of the pipe cleaner.


Step 4. Take the pipe cleaner and form a circle. Close off the ends by twisting the pipe cleaner together. Use the excess pipe cleaner to form a hook.


Step 5. I decided to use this ornament as a picture frame and I printed off one of their recent pictures onto paper and glued it to the back of the bead ornament and trimmed the excess paper. This craft is definitely simple and easy enough for a toddler to complete.
