As hoped, the girls and I had fun ice skating on our backyard rink Saturday.
Josie wore knee and elbow pads under her sweats.
I didn't stay on the ice very long because the ice isn't quite firm enough to support lots of weight yet. Poor Chris wasn't able to enjoy all his hard work, but he will. We just need some more time and mother nature on our side. Good thing Michigan winters are long ones.
I've included a very short video of our Saturday ice skating adventures. I'm even being brave and including myself doing a tiny bit of twirling in the video. I haven't been on skates in 5 years and I'm looking forward to more ice time.
Later Saturday afternoon, Chris hung a string of plastic outdoor lanterns across the ice.
They are connected from the treehouse to our sunroom windows. They look amazing at night.
The ice rink has been perfect addition to our backyard fun!
Looks like so much fun. Plastic chairs worked perfectly to get some balance. I liked Josie's solution too, play a little hockey with boots instead of skates. We had rain, rain, rain yesterday just a feel miles West of you . . . freaky weather isn't it!
ReplyDeleteLooks like so much fun...it makes me want to put on my skates and join in...
ReplyDeleteWonderful...just wonderful. You all look like you are having so much fun!
ReplyDeleteLovely! You look pretty good out there with your spins. I could never figure that out!
ReplyDeleteOkay, if I was healthy and not all broken apart, like I am, I would so want to be adopted into your family! I ice skated waaaaaay back before I first hurt my legs (age 14) and wanted to do all those swirls and turns.....you look so pretty twirling. Thanks for sharing.

now that's what I have been waiting to see!! Your hockey loving girls are darling! Not bad for not being on skates for 5 years! Looks like it might be like riding bike....
ReplyDeleteChris
Great photos!! what lucky girls. The lanterns are just perfect and your post is very timely with the announcement of a players agreement being reached :>) Enjoy your rink, I hope Mother Nature gives you some steady freezing. It is starting to warm up a bit in our area.
ReplyDeleteHow incredibly fun!!!!
ReplyDeleteI'd say you did pretty good with the twirling with a five year break...fancy! If I lived closer you may wake up one a.m and find me outside skating away (just not as fancy as you..but I don't need a chair)
ReplyDeleteHOW FUN!! You are a really graceful twirly girl, for sure. I would have been flat out on my backside if I'd tried that.
ReplyDeleteyay!! how fun! good spinning girlfriend... I bet josies gonna be a whiz on the ice when she gets the hang of it. I on the other hand, would look just like josie on the ice! lol! only not quite as cute!
ReplyDeletehave fun!

ReplyDeleteWhat fun! I have never been ice skating. There is a rink in town that our daughters would go to on occasion, and they always had fun there. xo Nellie

ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteHow fun!!!! You are such a fun family!!!! I used to skate in Ohio and Michigan when I was young, we had an outdoor covered rink in Ohio, you could go inside and get warm and then come back out and skate some more....good memories...never lucky enough to have an ice rink in my own backyard though! :)
What a blast! Looks like so much fun!!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like you gals had sooo much fun! Cute pictures! Love the lights too!
ReplyDeleteWhat fun! This will make the winter fun!
ReplyDeleteGirl, your life looks like magic! I love peeking in and seeing the fun. I also LOVE that chair thing. When I was a kid in Maine my folks expected me to just get out there, fall and learn the hard way, so I never tried. Good job, Mon!
ReplyDeleteHappy New Year Kim!! Oh my what fun!!! How neat to have your own rink in your backyard. So cool!! Happy Monday!! xo Heather
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing ice skating rink in your very own back yard! Your husband is a genius!
ReplyDeleteThe girls looked cute trying to get the hang of it! I'm sure they will be zipping through the ice in no time!
You can tell you are quite the skater!
You've still got it! This brings back great memories!
ReplyDeleteLooks like a lot of fun. Thanks for visiting today :)
ReplyDeleteYou guys look like you are having such fun! Wish I could skate. Loved your twirls!!
ReplyDeleteHugs,
Debbie
OK Peggy Fleming, that was quite impressive!
ReplyDeleteLove the video of Josie skating. Whoever thought of the chair idea was a genius. Would have saved me many a sprained wrist and bruised butt when I was learning to skate.
This is going to be so much fun for you guys this winter. Josie is too precious on her ice skates. I am so impressed by your skating. I am a non-skater but love watching people ice skate. Logan would love to live close to you guys, he is dying to ice skate.
ReplyDeletebeautiful rink! we didn't make ours in time before the ground froze...maybe this weekend since it will be 50 degrees. any tips are appreciated!
ReplyDeleteOH, it makes me want to go ice-skating!! It's been quite a while since I've gone... Looks like such fun!!
