Lucky Money!

As you can imagine, Josie is very excited to be celebrating her special holiday with her 1st grade classmates.
This afternoon I'll be in her classroom co-teaching a Chinese New Year lesson with another special Mom who also has an adopted child from China.

Josie and I spent Sunday evening preparing her Lucky Money red envelopes (filled with chocolate gold coins) to share with her classmates. I also found Chinese fireworks candy at Oriental Trading company.
More pictures coming Wednesday!

  5. My goodness you've been having a lot of fun. Please tell Josie I told her "Happy New Year." My first husband was Persian, so my children are half, and the Persian New Year is always the first day of spring, so now I have three New Years to keep track of. I just can't tell you how special you are for keeping Josie's culture alive for her.

    God Bless,
    Meri

  8. I have learned so much about Chinese culture from your blog. So many things I didn't know. I have a new appreciation for the rich traditions of Josie's native land. She is such a lucky little girl...she will always know who she is. I remember little things that made me feel special as a child...and I am still grateful for what I learned about my heritage.
