Nearly 13 years ago, we sold our former home (which was my late grandparent's home) and moved 50 minutes away to be closer to new jobs. One of the many things that came with us from my grandparent's home was this peony bush.
If you look closely in this picture, you will see a two year old Emma and much younger me in our Greenville home.
I've made room on my fireplace mantle for a few peony blossoms.
The blossoms smell heavenly.
Thinking of you, Grandma Fordyce.
Long live your beautiful peonies.
So sweet!
ReplyDeleteI think of my grandparents often~miss them but they reside in my heart.
Enjoy your day~hugs!
What a sweet way to remember your grandparents and former home. They are sooo pretty!
ReplyDeleteHope you have a fun and relaxing Sunday!
Oh my, I'd love me some Peonies. One thing I can't seem to grow. Gives me an idea though of a new corner of the gardens to give one a try. I have one bush, twenty years, one bloom . . .ever!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous Kim, great post!
I love, love, love peonies. They are one of my favorite early summer/spring flower. Yours are extra special. I have some from a former neighbor Barbara that are special to me as well. That scent...heaven.
ReplyDeleteL-O-V-E peonies too!!! How extra cool that they were your Grandmas'!I have 4 peonie bushes and would love to get more! Maybe a white one to go with all the pink/fushia ones!
ReplyDeleteI have a rose bush that was my Grandmas and another one that was my Great Grandma! Aren't we the sentimental ones!
Warmly,
deb
So special to have your Grandma's peonies! When my folks sold the house I grew up in, my Dad took his lilac....he shared it with me..I think of him every Spring when it blooms! I think transplanting flowers from someone we love is a great way to remember them!
ReplyDeleteLovely!
ReplyDeleteOh how I would love to have a bush that had belonged to *my* grandma!
My neighbor has some peonies but they are a dark... magenta? I don't know what color to call it but pink are my fav!
That's wonderful that you were able to take along grandma's peonies, Kim! Looks like they are doing great, they don't like to be transplanted, but you obviously have a super green thumb!
ReplyDeleteVery sweet! Peonies are gorgeous flowers, the sentiment that goes with yours makes them all the more beautiful.
ReplyDeleteIs it too hot and dry here in my mountain home for peonies? Roses do grow nicely here. Our rabbit fence is almost finished! I do love this post so much - thinking you have your grandmother's peonie bush, and roses, too - I think that is just wonderful!
ReplyDeleteKim,
ReplyDeleteJust beautiful!! I have peonies planted from my parent's yard but they are outside the fence in the back yard. That was before the lattice was added and you could see them from inside the yard. Joe did try to dig them up once to move them inside the fence but the roots must be down to the center of the earth!!
Thanks so much for stopping by! I am so happy with how my Powder Room came out!!
Hugs,
Debbie
I LOVE that you brought some of your Grandma's peonies with you when you moved to your new house. A lovely and fragrant reminder of happy times and special people. (I wish we had brought one of ours from our first little house when we moved here.)
ReplyDeleteMy mom has a hydrangea that was started from a cutting from a family member, who got it from another family member... Years passed, families changed, homes were sold, but everyone still gets to come to my Mom's yard and admire the "grandchild" of the original bush. I posted pics of that shrub last summer.
Yes, our kitty cats love to go outside. But we only let them out when we can go out in the yard with them. (Usually once a day, weather permitting.) The rest of the time they are indoor cats.
Oh I just love Peonies! My parents have some at the end of their green house...they smell so wonderful! Happy new week!! xo Holly
ReplyDeletePeonies are so beautiful.I love the fragrance!
ReplyDeleteWhat a special reminder of your grandparents and your home with young Emma.
Love peonies -- just wish they lasted longer! Heavy rains beat down ours a lot, but luckily I was smart enough to cut a few first!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Monday!!
What gorgeous flowers. I don't think I have ever smelled a peonie before but I bet they have a delightful scent.

What beautiful blooms and special memories. I love having reminders like that of happy times! Enjoy your week! Sweet hugs!
ReplyDeleteI love stories about heirloom plants!!!! My dad and I were just talking on the weekend about his nearly 40 year old peony bushes. Lovely post and photos from peonies past and present.
ReplyDeleteHi Kim,
ReplyDeleteI have peonies that very shade of pink that I did a post on last month! They are indeed heavenly! So glad you took that bush along with you.
Your daughter is just precious.
Have a great day! Gina
