With life gives you very cold weather...

You stare at the thermometer in disbelief.
You drink hot chocolate with extra whipped cream!
You do homework by a cozy fireplace.
And, you get an early start on the backyard ice rink!  This picture was taken Monday morning before work.  Chris spent all weekend building the rink and filling it with water.  He's extended the rink by a few more feet this year and we're hoping to have solid ice before Christmas.
We had a long skating season this past winter.  This picture of the girls skating in our backyard rink was taken on March 9th!
I might have mentioned this last year, but Chris and I met ice skating in college. January 1988.  We kinda have a special thing about ice skating.
We're thinking our door/ potting shed beneath the tree house might end up being a warming station during our ice skating adventures.
If it's going to be cold, we might as well enjoy it!

  1. Brrrrr.....You met ice skating? How cute is that- no wonder you have your own rink! Love how much fun your girls have on the ice. Let's hope MyHero does NOT try to make one in our backyard like he did last year! xo Diana

  2. It's going to be a bout 22 here today on long Island. I do like the cold though! Not many people do but I do! Love the ice rink; I remember your great posts from last year about it too and would love to have one! So much fun. As long as a home is warm and cozy we can beat ALL the
elements of Winter! Our homes are our havens!

  3. NO WAY!!!! I just saw a man doing that on one of the many Hallmark Christmas specials! You all must love that!
Got a call at 5:30 am saying school was closed due to inclement weather. Ironically, it's not doing anything outside! Yesterday, we had 6 inches and they're calling for more. Guess they didn't want to bother getting us all there only to close it early. Sadly, as much as I'd love to curl back into bed, I lay there awake for an hour afterwards and decided to get up and enjoy the quiet...and catch up on some blogs!!

  15. Love your ice rink! I have a family member in CT who also makes an ice rink, they love it! Great idea for a warming area. If we get to 30 I think it's freezing here, lol. Love a toasty fire too.

  17. We are freeezing too! In fact, the fireplace runs non-stop and we make cocoa almost nightly!

Love your ice skating rink! We should do something similar!

Hope you are having a great week!

  18. That is really cold! It hasn't dropped as low here, but it is extremely windy, exposed skin feels chafed. Chris has done an awesome job on the rink! The ice looks hard and even. Our rink opened the last week of November , but we have only been once so far.
