We had a busy weekend, starting with two different Christmas parades Friday night. Although I don't have any photographic evidence, Emma's marching band played a few Christmas tunes at the Grandville parade, while Josie's dance/cheer team performed in the Greenville Christmas parade.
On Saturday, the girls and I headed to our A-frame cottage while Chris joined us later that evening. When we arrived, we spotted a series of boats racing across the ice with special blades. If you look closely you can see a group of people standing in the middle of the lake. We actually watched them skating out to the center of the lake!
The girls were eager to test out their ice skates so when Chris arrived, I had him drill into the ice to confirm that it really was deep enough. Sure enough, the ice was nearly five inches thick in front of our cottage.
Soon after, he was busy clearing off the ice and the girls were in ice skating heaven.
Although we've been dreaming of a more elaborate fireplace, it's not in our budget right now and so we found a small electric fireplace for the A-frame downstairs. Isn't it cute? The wooden wreath is an estate sale rescue.
Like everyone, I've been busy decorating our house for Christmas and I'll be sharing some of my favorite Christmas estate sale rescues later this week. Christmas hugs!!

How cool to skate onthe ice in front of the A Frame! The girls had a super time I'm sure! I'm sure all the parades put you all into the Christmas spirit. I love those wonderful holiday events. :) CHristmas Hugs to you too! Maggie
I love that in the winter there is a whole new adventure connected with the cottage..what fun to put on your skates and out the door you go to the ice!
It looks like a wintery Christmas where you live. We've had warm weather for several weeks now with temps in the 50s and 60s...feels more like fall. I miss having kids at home with all their activities...that's what makes the holidays special.
Josie looks so cute. You are having fun. I could never stand up on skates. Bad ankles maybe. We have a little heater similar and just love it. Have fun celebrating.
Very cold where you are! That's a neat experience to be able to skate on the lake ice in front of the A-frame! We are going to have to come up for air one of these days.:-) It will all get done. Well, maybe not all of it, but Christmas will happen anyway. xo Nellie
Darling dollhouse decorated for Christmas! Is the ice frozen enough for skating?? Love the reflector banner! Thank you for the prayers for my sister!
warmly,
deb
The A-Frame really does seem like the perfect little get-away for your family Kim-enjoy:@)
what a perfect place for you and your family! I cant believe that you have 5 inches of ice already. It must be cold there. We still have no snow. though, that will end soon as within the next 48 hours we shall have snow! I was hoping maybe we might get away without it this year.
have a great week Kim

It looks like you are going to have a much bigger ice skating rink this year...how fun that is going to be!
Wow! What a fun weekend! I love the ice skating pictures! You guys know how to make winter sooo much fun! I need to take a lesson or two from you!
Hope you have a great weekend!
Oh-What Fun, Kim. How fun that the girls can skate on that lake. Ours never freezes smooth enough to skate on. Will you still put up your yard rink this year...or don't you need to now?
Love your little fireplace. When you get ready someday look for a Kozy Heat fireplace. They look REAL and they will heat a whole house in a matter of minutes. This is our third one in different homes. We are on natural gas lines though.
Happy weekending to you! xo Diana
They skate so beautifully! And I love your little fireplace...it's perfect for your cabin! Enjoy your week sweet friend! Hugs, Diane
Oh, I love your little fireplace! And skating on the lake - how fun!
Oh, how lucky are you guys? Two personal ice skating rinks!!
There will be lots of skating going on this year . . .
At the home home and the A frame home!
That Josie -- she's so adorable! Skating sounds like fun -- I nearly froze some toes off doing that when I was young! :)
Enjoy!!
Your girls are going to be pro skaters by the time they graduate!
What an adorable little fireplace!
Happy Holidays!
Erica :)
