In addition to showing of one of my favorite books that just happens to feature a dollhouse, I'm also going to share a metal dollhouse that I purchased this summer that you've never seen on the blog. I "just" recently set this up after re-arranging my craftroom over the holiday break.
This week's book is one of my childhood favorites. Illustrated by Richard Scarry and written by Kathryn and Byron Jackson, copyright 1949 and re-released again 1977.
Frisker and Whisker are two mice who live in a little red sock. After a trip to buy some food, they return to find their little home is gone! A kitten has taken it for a woolly cap. Whisker vows to find an even better house, but each time he does, another animal wants to use it too. Eventually, they find an abandoned dollhouse which all the other animals quickly want to move into.
Aren't those hearts on the window shutters are too cute?
Just look at all those yummy treats on the dollhouse table and the sweet flower covered rug!
Eventually, with the help of a puppy, it becomes their forever home.
Home sweet home.
Happy Friday!
Happy Playing!
Have a thrifty crafty weekend!
XOXO
Don't forgot to stop by Corey Moortgat's blog for more great vintage books and illustrations. She even has several dollhouses and the most amazing studio filled with vintage toys. Swoon! As you can tell from all my recent posts, I have a thing for dollhouses.
See this post, this post, this post and this post to see other dollhouses that I've created or repurposed. I'm going to blame my dollhouse addiction on my mother who lovingly made us our own dollhouses growing up and continues to make miniatures. Here is a pictorial tour of my MARX two story metal dollhouse.

Kim,
ReplyDeleteI had a similar doll house as a child. It actually was my sister's who was 10 years older than I am. I loved that metal doll house with it's plastic furniture! I would love to have one now but truly do not know where I would put it and that is something that i thought I would never say!! LOL!!
Hugs,
Debbie
Like I wasn't jealous enough of your adorable blog and crafty goings on! Now you have my dream home. I see those metal houses all the time and want to get one but having no room and no little girls at home... so hard to justify so will gaze on yours with envy and enjoy.
ReplyDeleteYour metal dollhouse is in terrific shape! Did you find it in Allegan? I have stayed away from any dollhouses until I clean my basement workroom....I need to get started on organization. Just love the houses you have!
ReplyDeleteAnd you know that mouse story touched my heart! I have a reader from first grade that centered on a dancing mouse which inspired my love of all things small.
Hope you have a terrific day! My hubby bought me a 'mouse' sander yesterday so I hope to work on a small chair this weekend.
So cute!! The books and the dollhouse! I remember having a metal dollhouse -- cool!
ReplyDeleteHappy friday!

ReplyDeleteDiane sent me over and Oh my! What delights. I had beautiful dollhouses as a girl and one of those metal ones in my kindergarten classroom that I remember fondly. I'll be back to take a closer look!
ReplyDeleteoh, just too much goodness to even comment upon! What a cute book (especially love that last illustration)! And your dollhouses, swoon! I've never seen one like that green one, with the pillars outside. And your marx one is in such pristine condition! And with furniture! I really need to work on getting some furniture!
ReplyDeleteSweet, sweet book.
ReplyDeleteWow! That doll house is amazing: the furniture, the detail and everything about it!
I love ALL your doll houses!
I just LOVE all your dollhouses, Kim! I have a wooden dollhouse that need to redo for Jaclyn and after seeing yours, I'm so inspired!

ReplyDeleteYour dollhouses are just darling! I hope you have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteGoodness me your dollhouse collection is amazing!
ReplyDeleteAnd what a perfect book to share. If I was a mouse I would want to live in a house just like that.
Kim, that is the cutest book. I love Richard Scarry's tales and illustrations. Such a perfect little house for the mousie family. Do you remember R.S's Tinker and Tanker books?
ReplyDeleteYour little house is so cute. I think it is very sweet how the love of doll houses has been passed down through the generations in your family.
What an incredible doll house, Kim! It looks like it's in pristine condition! And the furniture is perfect, did it all come together? Sounds like your handy man just may have to build an addition onto your house to accommodate your latest collection:) And I've always loved Richard Scary. Have a great weekend!
ReplyDeleteI remember that metal dollhouse from when I was growing up! One of my friends had one. :) FUN to see it again!
ReplyDeleteRichard Scarry, one of my favorite authors for our daughters when they were young. Our two grandchildren have been introduced to him, too.
ReplyDeleteWonderful dollhouses, Kim! What fun it must be to work on them!
That baby's room is adorable with the tin soldier on the floor. How cute. Love the plastic furniture too.
ReplyDeleteI love the dollhouse. Someone gave me a dollhouse and furniture very similar to this when I was little. I had so much fun playing with that dollhouse. What I wouldn't give to have kept it. Your blog is awesome, I love your crafts and I love dollhouses. Thanks, you made me smile!!
ReplyDeleteLucky you! I so want one of those doll houses! I've only seen one in person and it didn't call my name, so... I really would like to chew on your pink doll house furniture! Ha-ha! I have memories of that and chewing on plastic doll shoes!
ReplyDeleteYour story book pics are very cute! Love the hearts on the house!
