Halloween costumes...keeping it simple this year!

Most years, our Halloween costumes are fairly elaborate.  We have a very special lady who supplies us with costumes and makeup for the Halloween party.  She works with several local theater companies in the area and designs most of the costumes herself.

Mary Poppins

Hagrid
This year, our fantastic "costume/makeup lady" is out of the country during our Halloween party and we've been left to our own creativity.  When we were in Missouri this summer visiting the Fantastic Caverns, Josie spotted this bat hat and decided that she needed to be a bat for Halloween.

We're keeping it super simple this year.

Aside from black-feathered wings and the bat hat, the rest of the costume came straight from her closet.

Yes.  She has the model pose down pretty well.  She takes after her older sister (who is going to be a black cat this year).  I happened to spot this hand-made layered ruffle skirt, matching top, and shawl at Goodwill for $7.

I'm just adding this glittered mask, along with some orange tights and fun jewelry.

Chris still needs costume ideas, so feel free to make suggestions!!

What a cute little bat -- a bat and a cat!! Maybe Chris should be a rat or a hat or fat -- you get the idea! :) My favorite costume ever was the year I was my favorite candy - a Hershey kiss (and I made it myself!) LOVE your costumes!!!

So fun that Josie was the first to think of her costume and that it is her own original design. Everyone should be a bat at least once! That orange skirt was a great find this time of year.

I think I shall put orange chalk steaks and black spiders in my hair this year and perhaps where my halloween apron... but that will be the extent of my dressing up. If I had a really cool pair of orange cat eye glasses I would wear them too... but I dont.
cant wait to see all of your costume and party pics.
happy thursday Kimmie!

The bat idea is very cute even though bats are anything but cute cuddly things in real life. I have no ideas what Chris should be - all I cna think of are the traditional Frannkenstein type costumes and he's probably been that at some point in his life. I love that Mary Poppins costume you had!

Josie makes the cutest bat I've ever seen! Good idea to get your costume from the GW, maybe you could go back and see what you could get for Chris? Maybe a 1970's polyester leisure suit! Oh, and you both looked tres magnifique as Louis the 14th and Marie Antoinette!

Oh Kim, There is just not another party in town that will match the wonderfulness of yours! And there won't be a cuter bat in any cave than your little one.
By the way, thank you to your husband for solving the mystery of how to paint a similar spot in my daughter's home. It has been left unpainted all summer as we couldn't think of a safe way to reach - THANKS! E

Josie is just so adorable....always! Dress her up or down, it doesn't matter, she'll always shine.

Can't wait to see you in your regalia, which kinda looks like a candy corn. Maybe hubby should be another type of candy, too.

Hugs,
Meri

Such a cute little bat! We keep it low-key for costumes here. The kids are always changing their minds, so they usually just pick something out of the costume chest that day!

First time I've seen an adorable bat! Maybe the modeling skills come from having her picture taken from time to time?

Josie looks so cute in her little batty costume...I love the idea someone else had of Chris being candy...maybe a candy bar? I'm sure you could craft something fantastic out of cardboard!

My favorite costume pairing was a set I whipped up when I was still waddling with three babies worth of extra weight: I made a full body Barney the Dinosaur in striped classic prison garb, and Sam was a 13th century executioner leading me around by a chain. We called it "The Secret Dream of Every Parent."

No, we aren't well. And I'm sure that didn't help one bit. But I can't wait to see what you do!
