College Adventures!

Thank you for all the kind words regarding the death of my father in law.   Each night, we keep expecting the phone to ring and for him to ask about in our latest West MI happenings.  It's going to take time.  Sigh.
In the midst of sadness, we are also celebrating major milestones... such as Emma's move to college!
On Monday, we transported a very full van to the GVSU Allendale campus.  Her dorm room is apartment style and it's pretty darn amazing!  Thank you Jenny (our awesome niece) for suggesting that Emma request her former building.
Emma is living with her best friend.
They have a private bathroom.
Decent floor space.
And a mini kitchen.  Yes!  They've successfully cooked a few mac-n-cheese meals already!
Josie has had fun visiting and checking out her big sister's college desk/study space.
It's been a week of new transitions for everyone.
Josie has missed her big sister like crazy and Emma's cat (Luna) continues to sit outside of her bedroom door each night waiting for her to come home.

Overall, we're so excited for Emma's new college adventures.  She's going to do amazing things!

Go Emma, go!!!  Welcome freshmen GVSU class of 2020!

So sweet Kim. Doesn't it make you happy to see you young adult so happy? I went through the first year of college last year and just did the second year move in last week. All went well, and am so glad.
Take care and keeping you in my thoughts and prayers.

How wonderful! During the sad time of losing your father-in-law, God always adds a silver lining to lift you with the happiness of Emma's triumphs and new experiences! Your father-in-law is beaming with pride from heaven. What a great dorm room! I can't believe the size plus I'm happy she has a private bathroom and a great size kitchen! Tell Emma if she had an apartment that size in Manhattan it would be about $6,000 a month! Awesome for Emma!

How great she is embarking on her college life! What a great room. I think our first city condo (eons ago) was about that size, lol. Bittersweet for Josie not having her big sister role model around, aw. And poor kitty! Know you will keep us posted on her adventures. :)

It does seem like we often experience new doors opening in the midst of the closing of chapters.
Thinking of you and your family in the loss of your father in law.
Excited for Emma . . . looks like she has a great "new home" to do her studies . . .
I am sure Josie is adjusting through the changes . . .
Maybe the cat will find a new lap to cuddle in . . .
Campus visits will be fun, I am sure!

I always found it so exciting to watch them start out at college.. A tiny bit scary.. and a tiny bit sad, but mostly just joy and happiness because it was so exciting to them. And because I was proud that I had succeeded in raising kids that made it to college! lol! how far is Emma from home? when Jen went she was an hour and a half away, so was Beth, Tony was 7 hours away and then after two years, he went to AZ to Volvo school. Robert was only an hour away. I missed them all and Loved when they would come home and bring friends home.. they always seemed to travel in packs! lol!
How nice that Emma is rooming with her best friend. Jennifer also roomed with one of her good friends for a couple years. A girl that lived right next door to us while they grew up!
exciting times for sure!!
I bet you all miss her being home.. and poor luna! lol!!
have a great sunday my friend!

I don't know why, but this whole post has me in tears! Good tears though! Her dorm room is amazing!!! Who knew they even had those types of rooms nowadays! I was crammed 4 girls into a room and shared a bathroom with 16!!! girls. It's got to be big adjustment for all of you to have her out of the house, but at least she's close enough she can come back fairly often :)

That is a great room. I'm so proud of Emma. She seems like an amazing girl. After doing the college drop off again I know how hard it is and what an adjustment. Hang in there-she's gonna do great!
