A colony of flamingos...

The last of the Josie birthday celebrations happened Tuesday evening with my extended family.

I had hinted a few weeks ago on this post, that Josie would be receiving a cowgirl vest as part of her birthday presents. 

There was definitely a horse theme this year.


Chris and I  managed to surprise Josie with a horse tire swing from the Tractor Supply Company. 

 Grandpa was even a good sport and wore Chris's grass skirt and lovely straw hat all evening.  

Using Viv's pom pom flamingo as inspiration, my mother made a beautiful cake and created a colony of flamingos. 


Happy 6th Birthday, Josie! 

I can't wait to see what new milestones and memories we make together this year!

Josie's Flamingo Party!

Josie's little friend flamingo party was Saturday afternoon from 2pm - 4pm.





Two hours was the perfect amount of time and having it in between major meals made it super easy on me.

We also only had 3 little friends from Josie's kindergarten and latchkey program. They were so cute together.

We started out with a crafting table.  The kids colored surf boards and strung bracelets with beads and pipecleaners.  

The surf board is a free printable that you can find here.

We then played hot flamingo (aka hot potato) and pin-the-beak on the flamingo. 

As you can imagine, the flamingo hunt and pink sand were a big hit with the kiddos.

I even convinced Chris to wear a lovely straw hat and grass skirt with his Hawaiian shirt as he led the flamingo expedition.

At the end of the hunt, we had a chest in Josie's sandbox filled with treasures.


That pink sand is such a fun festive color and it was a BIG surprise for Josie and Emma.
After the flamingo hunt, we celebrated with presents and ice cream.


Such a special party for a special six year old! 

The festivities continue on Sunday with our own little family of four, and then again on Tuesday night with our extended family.  We love you Josie Xue!  Happy Birthday, sweetie!

Flamingo party preparations...

Josie's flamingo "little friend " birthday party is on Saturday. 


As I've said recently, Dollar Tree really came through this year. 

There's even more, but I've got to leave you with a few surprises. I also found this pink feather headband on clearance at Target.



It's going to be super sweet with her flamingo dress.

Here's a little birthday present secret.

Thanks to my Aunts, Josie's sandbox is getting a makeover and will be filled hot pink sand.

I can't wait to see her face when she sees her sandbox filled with pink sand!

I'm also going to borrow a few plastic flamingos from our tree and we will be going on a flamingo hunt throughout our yard and woods.

Yes.  We're even playing pin the "beak" on the flamingo. 

The weather looks to be hot and humid tomorrow.  Perfect for a flamingo party!  I promise to take lots of pictures!
