November is National Adoption Awareness Month

"You become a family, not because you share the same genes, but because you share love for each other." Joan McNamara, author

(Josie is in the blue coat)

I can't believe how quickly these 2.5 years have gone.

It truly feels as though Josie has been with us forever.

All her surgeries and horrible night terrors are just a faint blur now (thank goodness). This sweet little girl brings us more joy than we could have ever imagined.

Adoptive Families Magazine has posted their 30 ways to celebrate adoption calendar here. Great ideas. We're looking forward to attending our Adoptive Family Support Network 2010 celebration at the Grand Rapids Children's Museum next Friday night. Perhaps I might see some of my local adoptive families??

Cheers to all those families who have opened up their hearts to adoption. It's an amazing gift. A special thanks to all my special needs adoptive blogging friends. You've been a wonderful support over all these years. I've enjoyed our online friendship in more ways than I can express.

Adoption is something that my husband and I have talked about many times. I am a new follower and look forward to reading about your journey with your girls!

What a transformation from her first pic with the family to now. Always WOW to see it happen!! And you are so right, it feels like Kaylin has always been here...since her birth and I often catch myself talking about when I was "pregnant" with her or "when she was born". So strange, yet so natural, too. We are forever changed, aren't we Kim? And sooo blessed to have this community of adoption friends like yourself. Hugs!!

I am 27 years old and underwent repair for tetralogy of fallot as a very little person. My life has been wonderful. My childhood was filled with swim team, running, softball, and dance. Pregnancy was no issue for me, although after our first biological child, God has called us to adoption and hope to get our second little girl from Uganda soon.

I will have to have valve replacement surgery in the next several years. We asked our cardiologist if we should get pregnant again quickly if we desire more bio children, and he felt very sure that we can have children however and whenever we like, and to not let surgery play a role in our decision -- except of course the year of surgery.

No one feels sure of my life expectancy, but we do all expect that I will live a full life and love on some grandchildren. Each day of my life was written in God's book before one of them came to be (Ps 139:16) The same is true for your daughter.

None of us get any assurances, except that God is love, and His ways are perfect!
