Privacy Screen...

We're on a roll with do-it-yourself projects lately.  We have a small deck off our sunroom that overlooks our neighbor's backyard pool.

Chris and I really enjoy sitting on the deck at night (but our neighbors also love evening swimming).  I had been complaining that I didn't like the feeling of being on display, so Chris came up with a cheap but festive solution for a privacy screen.

Using lattice, bamboo poles and a couple of sheer curtains that can be drawn closed or opened up, Chris constructed this privacy screen.

To give it a little color, we found these glass vases, glass balls, and glass t-light holders while recently on vacation in Pentwater and Whitehall.

We also attached the lights that were in the umbrella to the railings of the deck.

It's a lovely oasis with a tad bit more privacy.

Well done, Chris.  Have I said how much I love his K-12 summer work schedule (smile).

My sister in law has a similar deck and I agree that you feel as if you are on display. Great solution and love it all lit up at night. Chris rocked that project...

My home needs power washing, may I borrow your handy husband? These are all great ideas, but I'm still thinking of adding a few mushrooms underneath my back yard oak tree! Such fun here! Elizabeth

That is so cool! I have been thinking of doing something like this for privacy but hadn't figured out how to do it without making it a huge project. This is awesome! I will have to show my hubby. :)

Wow Kim!! I love that!!!!!!! What a creative hubby you have! I too feel like I am on display on my porch. Another thing I don't like, is my neighbors yard next door. When we are on our deck, you can see clearly into the next yard. They do not mow their grass til it is a foot high!!! Weeds, trees growing in the middle of nowwhere. UGGG! Such a mess to look at. Hummm, this idea might just work for me in solving that problem. A piece of lattice, and a curtain. WAL - AH no more messy view!!

Hugs,
Debbie

My reader has been reset again. This is a perfect solution. I grew up in a house with a deck like that and I knew I wanted a walk out when we moved. Having never been able to come up with this genius solution. Love those water globes...Smiles...Renee

You are on a DIY roll! First of all, what a beautiful deck space and I love the solution Chris came up. My husband is working on our deck right now. He tore down our privacy wall so we have to come up with a solution. I think we will also use curtains a trellis.
