My indoor magical forest...

Thanks to my blogging friends, my toadstool and gnome/elf ornament collection has grown significantly over this past year. 

The larger gnome/elf that you see in the right of the picture was something I picked up at the antique mall last May.  He was made in Germany in 1936.  

The felt elf was a gift from Elizabeth (Creative Breathing) last year.  Isn't he handsome?

The vintage ornament in the center of the tree was a gift from Renee (My Vintage Mending).

I made the acorn cap toadstools a few years ago and featured them on my blog here.

Leslie (Brookhalloween Lane) sent me and the girls several of these beaded toadstools.

Viv (Viv's Whimsy) made me this very special elf last year.

Corey sent me several of these vintage wooden toadstools last December.

I was in the mood to make a new wreath over the weekend and decided to design mine based on a gnome/toadstool theme.   Most of the supplies were from the Dollar Tree and my own crafting supplies.

Supplies:
Wreath form (Dollar tree)
Dried moss (Dollar Tree)
Pinecones (optional...we had some in the yard)
Hot glue gun
White glitter
Wooden furniture knobs (Hobby Lobby)
Red/White paint and brush
Ribbon
Gnome ornament (World Market)
Heart shape from decorative card stock optional
I started by painting the wooden knobs.  The stems are painted white and the tops are red.  The dots on the toadstool caps are done by dipping the the end of the paint brush onto white paint and pressing onto the toadstool caps.


I then glued the moss onto the center of the wreath and then glued the gnome, toadstools and pinecones onto the wreath.  Everything was covered a bit of white glue and dusted with white glitter.

Estate sale rescues...

Back in August, my husband scooped up these 1950s plywood Christmas figurines at a local estate sale.  

He wasn't sure where we were going to display them, he just knew that at $25 for the entire set, they needed to be rescued.


On Saturday, Chris put on his thinking cap and found unique ways to display them around our house.

Secured with hooks and fishing line, the deer are flying over our front porch flower boxes.

With cathedral ceilings in the living room, we got creative with the rest of our fragile pieces. The choir boys and wreath are around our entertainment center.


The brittle sleigh is above our stairwell.  The snowflakes are suspended with fishing line and more ceiling hooks.  You might recognize this as the same place that our Halloween witch resides in October.

Yes.  Our house has turned into a department store holiday display!

Doesn't it always feels like an extra long week after coming back from a holiday?

A stroll through my Christmas village...

My Christmas tour continues with more tiny treasures.  This time, I'm featuring my collection of  houses and miniature elves that are currently residing on my living room fireplace mantle .

 Most of the houses were estate sale putz houses that received fresh makeovers with a bit of new paint and lots of glitter.

I've mixed plastic houses with putz cardboard houses.

Erica's home is busy with elf activity.

My mother made this little church several years ago.  I love the flocked roof.

This winter wonderland is made up of lots of white felt and frosted garland.   Such a happy little Christmas village.
 

Playing in the kitchen...

My miniature toy stove has found its way onto my kitchen counter this Christmas season.

The collection of Santa's and the pink bottle brush wreath were estate sale finds earlier this fall. 

A vintage bottle brush tree fits nicely inside my miniature dollhouse baby carriage.

Just a little holiday playing.
