Umbrella love...

The Detroit Tigers were on late last night and I promised my husband to watch part of the game with him. I'm not good at sitting and decided to work on a craft that didn't require glue. Keep your eyes open for unique umbrellas while you're out thrifting and antiquing.

I found this handsome umbrella last fall at the Allegan Antique market. I fell in love with its beautiful silver handle.

The vendor let me have it for only $3!!

I started with stuffing the interior of the umbrella with black tissue paper. I then tied a bow of out of orange satin ribbon around the middle of the umbrella.

I added orange tissue paper fringe around the top of the umbrella and the final touch was putting one of my decorated black birds (originally purchased from the Dollar Tree) inside the top of the umbrella.
I've decided to name her Broomhilda.

I didn't use any glue so that the umbrella can be taken apart and redone for additional holidays.

The possibilities are endless.
Keep your eyes open for umbrellas!

PS. I decided with all my Halloween decorating ideas it was time for a blog makeover. The blog header is a picture of our bedroom mantle taken last year.

I was serious when I said every part of the house gets decorated for Halloween.

XOXO

What a fun and creative project, Kim! You always come up with THE best ideas! And I love your mantle. You really do go to town decorating for Halloween! Do you get Country Living magazine? My issue came yesterday, and the cover features beautiful faux pumpkins that have been decoupaged. Love them!!!

That umbrella is a wonderful find, especially for 3$. You always amaze me at your treasures for such a small price. The reference to Broomhilda made me laugh, my dad used to read that comic strip to us as kids!

Wonderful! You have put me in the mood for Halloween. I may even have to tart up my blog heading. Thanks for the umbrella tip. I looks great.

That's neat. And I like that you didn't permanently glue everything to the umbrella so you can do something else with it later if you change your mind.

The sliver handle on the umbrella is really nice. I didn't know umbrellas made such a big fashion statement.
