With another week home with the girls, Chris is at it again with another construction project!
This time, it's a backyard ice rink!
This is how Chris spent his entire day on Monday.
By evening, the frame was built, leveled, and plastic sheeting was in place.
This is what it looked like at 10pm Monday night after several hours of the hose running. Kinda looks like a pool from our sunroom deck.
We need several days of freezing before the girls can go skating.
This is what it looked like Tuesday morning. Fingers crossed that this works. Did I ever share that Chris and I met ice skating in college? January 1988. Very special memories...

Met at the ice rink...how sweet! I'd celebrate with a couple laps around that beautiful rink! Hope that Josie lasts longer than ours did; rent skates, 15 minutes later all done! Hee hee!
Oh, I hope it works for you! You must have some really cold temps coming!
xo Nellie
Kim you would love the home movies of my husband skating on his backyard rink as a boy in Detroit. It will work! This is exactly how it was made. Have fun! E
oh that hubby of yours! what fun. I always wished I could ice skate.. but the couple or few times I tried, I was no good at it! Never have been very graceful. Youre going to have a blast! looking forward to the pics to come. fun way to start the new year!
xoxo
That is sweet! So nice to have in your backyard so you can avoid the frozen toes that I experienced as a child walking home in my socks from an ice skating rink! My poor feet may have never recovered! :)
LOL- OMG-WAIT till you see OUR ice rink on my blog tomorrow- You are gonna die laughing- xo Diana
That is sweet of your husband to make a skating rink for the girls....my father did the same thing for us...but I think it was an by accident....he was doing some landscaping in our huge front yard with a bulldozer and he made big hills of dirt which left a BIG area dug out. Then we had rain storms for days which left a giganormous puddle ....I can remember winter set in and we had a large lakelike frozen puddle in our yard...Our own personal ice skating rink and it was safe! I have pictures of it somewhere.
That is so cool. I hope it works-the girls will have a blast. Didn't know you guys met skating-how cute. Happy New Year!
What a guy he is and what fun the girls and friends will have! I have fond, fond memories of ice skating when I was a young girl . . . No beau for me though . . .
Oh my! He can build anything! I hope it works! Happy New year to your sweet family! God bless you!
Holy smoke!! What a great project!! Those girls of your will have a blast! How about a little vidoe of the girls twirling?

That is fabulous! The kids are going to love it.
Wow! That's quite the project!
Can't wait to see skating pictures!
Kim & Chris, it looks amazing! I am hoping that you have several cold days in a row so everything will set well. It will be so much fun for all of you! A treehouse and an ice rink all in one backyard, what a special space.
Sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun for the girls this winter! And you two can re-live all sorts of smooches on the ice. :-)
I hope it is a success, the girls will love it! I am glad I still have the rest of the week off. It was hectic before Christmas but I am loving the after Christmas relaxation!
Oh my gosh...brings back memories of Chahinkapa Park in Wahpeton, North Dakota..Anyone live there in the late 1950''s? I LOVED ice skating on the pond and there was an old wooden "warming"cabin with a wood stove in it. We walked home 7 or 8 blocks..your girls will have such fun! mm,vancouver,wa.
wow!!! that is sooo cool!!!
Simply amazing...the man never stops...I can't wait to see the pictures of memories you all make on it....smiles..Renee
My dad built a backyard skating rink for us when we were kids ... wonderful memories! I know he spent more time working at it (it took an amazing amount of work and maintenance!) than we did skating, but we all loved it. You're making some great memories there!
So cool! Lots of people around here have ice rinks in their back yard. Kind of amazing to see all of them. Would love to have one, too, but our yard isn't big enough. :) Looking forward to seeing ice skating pics of your family!
How totally awesome!!! Most of the time, I'm glad I live where it doesn't get cold, but stuff like this makes me miss it! I hope it works- how fun that would be!!!
And I thought it was cold here! NOT EVEN COLD! I am just totally amazed - I've never heard of this before, making your own ice skating rink! YOU TWO are the BEST PARENTS EVER!!!
Now THAT is amazing! How cool. Wish we lived closer, I would have my figure skater right over :-)
