Our backyard ice rink...

With another week home with the girls, Chris is at it again with another construction project!

This time, it's a backyard ice rink!

This is how Chris spent his entire day on Monday.

By evening, the frame was built, leveled, and plastic sheeting was in place.

This is what it looked like at 10pm Monday night after several hours of the hose running.  Kinda looks like a pool from our sunroom deck.

We need several days of freezing before the girls can go skating.

This is what it looked like Tuesday morning.  Fingers crossed that this works.  Did I ever share that Chris and I met ice skating in college?  January 1988.  Very special memories...

Met at the ice rink...how sweet! I'd celebrate with a couple laps around that beautiful rink! Hope that Josie lasts longer than ours did; rent skates, 15 minutes later all done! Hee hee!

That is sweet! So nice to have in your backyard so you can avoid the frozen toes that I experienced as a child walking home in my socks from an ice skating rink! My poor feet may have never recovered! :)

That is sweet of your husband to make a skating rink for the girls....my father did the same thing for us...but I think it was an by accident....he was doing some landscaping in our huge front yard with a bulldozer and he made big hills of dirt which left a BIG area dug out. Then we had rain storms for days which left a giganormous puddle ....I can remember winter set in and we had a large lakelike frozen puddle in our yard...Our own personal ice skating rink and it was safe! I have pictures of it somewhere.

Kim & Chris, it looks amazing! I am hoping that you have several cold days in a row so everything will set well. It will be so much fun for all of you! A treehouse and an ice rink all in one backyard, what a special space.

Sounds like it's going to be a lot of fun for the girls this winter! And you two can re-live all sorts of smooches on the ice. :-)

I hope it is a success, the girls will love it! I am glad I still have the rest of the week off. It was hectic before Christmas but I am loving the after Christmas relaxation!

Oh my gosh...brings back memories of Chahinkapa Park in Wahpeton, North Dakota..Anyone live there in the late 1950''s? I LOVED ice skating on the pond and there was an old wooden "warming"cabin with a wood stove in it. We walked home 7 or 8 blocks..your girls will have such fun! mm,vancouver,wa.

My dad built a backyard skating rink for us when we were kids ... wonderful memories! I know he spent more time working at it (it took an amazing amount of work and maintenance!) than we did skating, but we all loved it. You're making some great memories there!

So cool! Lots of people around here have ice rinks in their back yard. Kind of amazing to see all of them. Would love to have one, too, but our yard isn't big enough. :) Looking forward to seeing ice skating pics of your family!

How totally awesome!!! Most of the time, I'm glad I live where it doesn't get cold, but stuff like this makes me miss it! I hope it works- how fun that would be!!!
