Flamingo croquet...

Josie's birthday flamingos have found a new purpose!  Croquet!

We recently purchased this lovely vintage croquet set and it was missing a few wickets. 

 
No problem.  Our plastic flamingos have adjustable legs, just the right size for a few croquet balls.

 


I'm guessing the "official" rules of croquet don't include flamingos.

Let there be LIGHT and horsing around...

I had hinted yesterday that Chris did some shopping with the girls at my favorite "local" antique store without me.  When I came home from work on Wednesday, Chris was busy in my craft room installing a new light. It's not just any light. It's a light made from blue canning jars!

I've never had good light in my craft room and this certainly directs the light down towards my counter, instead up towards the ceiling.  What a nice surprise!  I can't wait to start crafting again with better light!  While they were at the antique store they also spotted this vinyl toy barn. 

I had wanted to find a barn for Josie's birthday horse collection.

It's absolutely adorable.  I especially love the graphics.




The barn even comes with all kinds of its original accessories. 


The best part.  The barn was only $4.99 and it closes up for easy storage.

Well done, Chris.  I really love my new/old lights and Josie adores her new/old barn. Happy Father's Day, sweetie!

A summer makeover...

With the last of the birthday festivities behind us now for a few months, I decided to update the blog with one of my favorite blog banners from last year. 

We won't be visiting Mackinac Island again this summer, but we will be leaving in less than 10 days for our annual week long vacation on the shores of Lake MI.



 I'll be back again on Friday with a special treat that my husband surprised me with Wednesday night. Let's just say he ventured into an antique store while I was at work and he has now scored major BROWNIE points.  I also need to do a "mail call" on my blog. I have all kinds of special treasures that have been sent to our house recently from my blogging friends.  I promise to take pics over the weekend of my goodies.

A colony of flamingos...

The last of the Josie birthday celebrations happened Tuesday evening with my extended family.

I had hinted a few weeks ago on this post, that Josie would be receiving a cowgirl vest as part of her birthday presents. 

There was definitely a horse theme this year.


Chris and I  managed to surprise Josie with a horse tire swing from the Tractor Supply Company. 

 Grandpa was even a good sport and wore Chris's grass skirt and lovely straw hat all evening.  

Using Viv's pom pom flamingo as inspiration, my mother made a beautiful cake and created a colony of flamingos. 


Happy 6th Birthday, Josie! 

I can't wait to see what new milestones and memories we make together this year!
